Primer to Peer to Peer Lending

This is a detailed Primer on Peer-to-Peer(P2P) lending by Alexandra Mateescu of the Data & Society Centre written in January 2015. It explains how the global economic meltdown of 2008 necessitated the idea of peer-to-peer lending, explains what peer-to-peer lending is and explains the various types of peer-to-peer lending platforms.

It also builds a case for P2P lending as an alternative system to traditional and conventional lending systems carefully explaining the benefits and regulatory framework for the same. It also highlights who the actors and key stakeholders are in the P2P lending system and highlights the potential of P2P in addressing global financial challenges going forward.
